Government Advocacy

AGC of NJ has a staff of expert lobbyists, with a history of service in the legislative and executive branches of New Jersey government, including those with personal experience as contractors and union members. This enables AGC of NJ to be a respected voice for union contractors when covering issues with governmental leaders.
AGC of NJ monitors legislative and regulatory initiatives introduced by the thousands each year to ensure that the interests of union contractors are protected. The association advocates proactively for specific bills and rules that improve the bidding and regulatory climate for the collective membership.
Recently, AGC of NJ was successful in promoting the enactment of law to permit the withdrawal of bids under certain circumstances. Ongoing efforts include work to stabilize funding for the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund, compel public agencies to provide reasonable cost estimates and legitimate rationale for bid rejection, and ensure naming requirements of subcontractors are consistently applied.
AGC of NJ has routine engagement with public agencies including the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Departments of Transportation and Environmental Protection, New Jersey Transit, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and others. This open communication guarantees the flow of vital information to and from the AGC of NJ membership.
When necessary, AGC of NJ engages at the judicial level to preserve the collective rights of members and provide the union contractor perspective on issues before the courts.
On federal issues, AGC of NJ partners with our national organization, the Associated General Contractors of America, to augment the national voice of the construction industry. We routinely advocate for infrastructure funding.
